Our family opens presents on Xmas eve. Then my mom does a big turkey dinner the day of Christmas. It's like 2 Thanksgivings a year. I want that elephant!
What a nice little elephant! Really cute!
Our familytradition around christmas is: on the first day we have a great dinner with different courses, on the second day we eat simple (hutspot, boerenkool o.i.d.) so it's not just an all-you-can-eat-holiday! :)
We don't do gifts because of the dutchtradition of St. Nicolas!
so happy surgery went well! hope you all get the rest you need!
our christmas traditions:
-wild salmon which we eat from 24.12. to 1.1.
-on 24.12. we go for a family brunch in a theatre every year. with good brunch, music and experimental childrens theatre. the kids can play with different costumes or crafting. it's very relaxed and i like it very much.
-on 27.12. we've our family reunion christmas with the drawing lots system ;-)
-i go and buy a big real christmas tree. i like how it smells & i like real candles and real little red apples at the tree.
the colani elephant is a very smart guy. would like to have him in my livingroom ;-) wish you a happy day. good sleep and special greetings to your sweet little monster which is for real a princess i'm sure*
Happy to hear you are all doing well!
What a beautiful elephant.
Our Christmas tradition is to have our turkey dinner on December 24th, Christmas Eve, with family and friends. Then Santa Claus comes that night and leaves one gift for the children and some little surprises in everyone's stockings. We open them around our Christmas tree on Christmas morning while enjoying fresh baked muffins and tea. (some of the adults prefer Champagne and orange juice) Then after all the gifts have been opened one by one and enjoyed we do a large breakfast of Eggs Benedict. The rest of Christmas day is spent in our pajamas playing with the kids and their new toys. We feast on turkey leftovers and Christmas baking so that nobody is stuck in the kitchen. So relaxing!!

Just discovered your blog...what a slice of heaven! Would love it if you dropped by - http://checksandspots.blogspot.com/
Oh, I do like it when things are going well. The elephant's form is lovely. Why are money boxes often in the shape of elephants?
Christmas. Ah, so soon. We'll be eating fruit and crackers and dips and cheeses and wine and that's all. No one cooks. We might buy in a cooked chook and ham, but it's hot and we eat light and go to the beach and sit around in our togs all day. Yah.
You must share which photo won the prize! Pleased to hear about the surgery, everyone was sending protective thoughts.
Summer christmas here. My family all gather at a location that is central to where we are all living at the time (this changes every year!) and we will have a barbeque, everyone will bring something to eat and drink and we will sit in the sun and catch up with everyone who we don't get a chance to see too much, and maybe play some cricket or go quad biking.
PS.. the elephant is to die for.
xx

Glad the surgery went well! One of my favorite Christmas traditions is eating Chinese food at my parents house with my entire family on Christmas Eve. We are such gourmands every other day of the year, we always use Christmas Eve as the opportunity to indulge in some take-out :)
Congrats on the the surgery going well and the photo contest!! This little guy is in my favorite green color. xo
my niece collects piggy banks she would so love this!! thanks for the chance :)

He is so cute! Our family tradition is making my great grandmother's cookie recipe (so so good) and icing them...while watching Home Alone or A Christmas Story. xo ;)
Congrats on winning that prize! And I'm happy to hear that surgery went well!
I love all elephants, I have quite a collection myself :) So I'd love this one too so much :)
So funny that you should be giving away a money bank... Every Xmas, my brother and I would open our piggy banks and divide the funds into half. One half went into our savings account and the other we got to donate to the charity of our choice. I've started the tradition with my son, but a few weeks ago, we came home from a trip to find that our home had been robbed. My son's piggy bank was smashed and all the coins were gone. Times must be hard if thieves are raiding children's piggy banks, eh?
Our family christmans tradition involves clipping victorian candle holders onto the tree on christmas eve and hanging oranges and apples with gold thread on the tree. It always looks so beautiful.

Lovely Little Green Elephant !
Congratulations for the prize. Post the photo, will love to see it.
My family as my grandma lives, she is 90, meet the 25 of december, to have lunch. Just more than 25 people, with cousins, uncles, grand-grand childrens this year...will be special this year, just because grandma is grandgrandma. We have a traditional menu...but will be too long. Will probably blog.
What I am coming to learn as a Christmas traditions in Germany is completely different from what I grew up celebrating in the States. We have actually made it a tradition to meet with the same friends every year at the Christmas market in Hamburg. We drink spiced wine and eat "meat-on-a-stick" and soak up the whole atmosphere.
Christmas Eve, or "Holy Evening" as it is called in Germany, is spent with my husband's family. We dress up, go to church, come home and visit the rehab center and sing carols, and we end up eating a cold dinner with smoked eel/fish, cheeses, and breads. Then we light the Christmas tree (with real candles) and open presents. The following day we have a warm meal and sleepily enjoy visit time on the sofa until we almost fall asleep, and then we take our Christmas Day walk in the woods as a whole family.
Congratulations on all accounts. We celebrate Advent since my husband is German and then on Christmas Eve we have beef foundu with a good loaf of French bread. We also read the Christmas story from the bible on Christmas morning before the Children open their presents.
I love your blog and this little creature.
Congrats to you! I love the elephant money bank-so unique!

At home, we keep our Christmas tree all year round, so it changes from dark green to pale yellow. This is to keep good memories for every single of 365 coming days.
In Poland, we make Christmas Angels from flour, salt and water pastry. Then bake them, paint and give away as a lucky charm.
Congrats to your little brave monster, on winning a prize and thank you for lovely pics.
On your example, I've just started blogging :)))
Enjoy the WE!
Our Christmas traditions have been set in stone for years.
My brother, my partner and I arrive at our family home as early as we can muster ourselves. Inevitably our parents have already been up for hours.
We empty our falling-apart felt stockings of peanuts, oranges, perhaps a magazine and sparkly pencils. My partner is yet to have his own personalized stocking, perhaps this year will be his year.
Over a cup of tea, we argue over who will play santa and distribute the presents among those present. The duty usually falls to my brother. We take turns to rip or gently peel the paper off.
Once we have feasted on Christmas muffins and lots of tea, we drive to our Aunt and Uncle's home in a small town to the north. We barbecue with our cousins and talk about the past year. If it's hot enough we might go to the beach for a swim, but usually it's disappointingly cool and we just hunt out patches of sun to sit in.
My partner and I feast on all the salads while the rest of our family trade digs about our vegetarianism, while they eat sausages and steak. Later in the afternoon we make the drive home, taking pictures on the way.
This year it will all be different, as my parents are moving house right before christmas. Boxes for Christmas.
What a wonderful piggy bank.
It's feeling Christmassy-sort-of already over here. That's because it's swelteringly HOT, and once again I'm regretting my eco-conscious-non-air-conditioned choices. Swelteringly hot is a Christmas tradition as is an extended family game of cricket after a huge homecooked traditional feast. All sounds utterly bizarre, I know (and agree).
Sounds like things are on the up over at yours. Excellent news.
The elephant is darling. For Christmas my extended family really goes all out. We have a huge brunch on Christmas morning after opening our stockings. Then we spend pretty much the whole afternoon opening presents because there are so many of us! Gram will make lobster stew for dinner. Then we will spend the next day eating all of the food in Gram's fridge because she leaves for her winter home in a few days. Before the family all leaves, we take all the ornaments off the tree and bring it outside into the snow and burn it along with all the wrapping paper trash. We call this the "Christmas Tree Roast"!
Thanks for the chance at your giveaway :)
love it! I always wanted one!!!!!
Surgery gone well is always great news to hear! And congratulations on the picture, as well :D Good times!!
In my family, tradition is that we give each others pyjamas, haha! My parents always did that when I was younger, and it still sticks with the years... And now that I am 26, with husband and kid, we ALL get pyjamas! It's always cute and fun even if not really a surprise anymore.
And while most people do the "midnight" thing on the 31st, we also do it on the 24th :) We have nice family dinner and soirée at my in-laws, where we play games and their tradition is to sing Quebec holiday songs all together as a choire, and then I always try to drive to arrive at my parent's place not too long before midnight. So then it is really Christmas and the celebration starts again! <3
that's good!
we don't celebrate christmas! i made it a thing to buy a (small) christmas tree and bake cranberry orange loaves in the past 2-3 years though.
Yes, congrats to you! And yay, that the surgery went well. I'm sure you are feeling very happy!
What a sweet little elephant! I would love to give him a nice home...
Happy holiday season to you and yours!
I love that little elephant.
A Christmas tradition in our house (started by me for our children - I hope they do it for their children one day).....we have an advent tree hung with 24 little crepe paper parcels with numbered tags on (each child has their own colour)
Inside the parcels are miniature decorations which the children hang on their little trees in their bedroom. On Christmas Eve, there is a star in the last parcel for the tops of the trees. No chocolate advent calendars in this house!
At Christmas I am at my Mum's house by around 9:30am to open my presents. Even though my sister & I are older now, we still all sit together first thing to open gifts. By 2pm Christmas dinner is cooked & we have a formal dinner with everyone around the table. Huge table with bowls & bowls of different food. Shortly after we're stuffed & the 'children' clear the table, then we watch a Christmas movie. Last year it was 'Fred Claus'. We then get around the table again for desserts, followed by board games & drinks until everyone is too tired to play anymore!
We tend to do the same type of thing on New Year's Day but without gifts. Those 2 days are my 2 favourite days of the year!!! Even more than my birthday. :D
what a lovely gift to give out! I'm so happy to hear that everything went well :)
I'm actually still looking for a nice holiday tradition. I'm not really a big fan of Christmas, it used to make me feel lonely. I don't feel lonely anymore but if we had the budget for it I would want us to travel during Christmas time somewhere lovely, just the two of us, Minna and I. But we don't have the budget for it yet so every other year we spend the holiday with my family and every other year with Minna's family. It's nice too:)
What a fabulous giveaway Kay!
I also loved reading about people's traditions! I look forward to hearing more about your Sinter Klaas traditions!
congratulations about your photo and good that operation went well!!
I can see in elephants eyes that he wants to live with me=))
I come from Russia, but live in Germany now, so Christmas is the only holiday I go back home to see my family (our Christmas is on January 8). We all get together, mom and grandma cook lots of tasty food and we sit together, eat, chat..and later (usually it is really snowy and cold) we all go for a walk or to church. This is nothing special, but I really love this getting together and family meetings.
Glad to hear that surgery went well.
And congratulations for the winning!
I love Christmas! I always hope that Christmas time wont' be so busy, but... Many places to visit, many relatives to see. I stay with my family in the Christmas Eve. We eat well and spend time together. My parents have Christmas tree in their home, I love the scent of it. I have only candles and all sort of decoration at my home but no Christmas tree. I think that my little monster dogs would eat it.
Congrats on the win!
Love this little guy! Especially the color. We always go and cut down our Christmas tree. After we stomp around the forest looking for the best Charlie Brown tree and collection pine cones, we eat chili at the firehouse to warm up. Can't wait to go this year!
Kay as you know we love your pics - our christmas tradition is to jump on the bus at the end of our raod, travel in the dark and cold and arrive 10minutes later as the night sleeper awaits in central london and we head north to scotland - our girls ask the same question - mummy why do we need such a big bag with us and we reply - "well girls it is cold in the north and we must keep warm - inside the coats in the sleeves and tucked inside are little gifts carefully wrapped and ready for christams morning. We snuggle down in our bunks we have a toast with hot choocolate and cuddle up on the slow train, at 6am the train man brings tea to our bed and tells us we must prepare to get off the train and then we step onto the platform and christams has started - it is lovely and romantic and old fashioned and already a journey of so many happy memories - what could be nicer!!!
kay - i don't know what happened with your little girl but am happy that you are all well - i have been hard at work and sadly with my mum in scotland following my much loved grandmothers death I am going all out on my christams this year as we need some cheer
Great!
and good news(en)
Oh, what a fabulous elephant! :) I would love it!
Congratulations Kay, which photo was it?
this little green one is adorable, I love it !!
dat is een heel mooi olifantje, Sinterklaas!
So glad that all is well with your surgery, and I wish you all a time of rest and healing.
Our Christmas tradition is to gather at my mom and dad's home on Christmas Eve, open gifts from those that are out of town, and then enjoy dinner together. My mom always has pj's for my kiddos, and they are dressed and gathered up to go back to our home.
Now, I'm sure I can find a nice place for this little chappy, if he'd like to walk my way!
what a cute little elephant!
This cute elephant will fit perfectly with the other vintage coin-savers we have, and we still like to have one for our youngest, so it would be perfect! nice you came visiting my blog and thanks for the compliment! I've been scrolling down yours and had fun reading it!
